Santa Maria del Mar Basilica
Legend has it that before this basilica was erected, the plot was actually the burial site of Santa Eulàlia, Barcelona’s patron saint. Work on the structure got started in 1329, and took only 55 years to complete. Also referred to as the “Cathedral of La Ribera”, the Basilica is one of the most stunning examples of Catalonian Gothic architecture, featuring a façade adorned by a beautiful stained glass rose window from the 15th century, and inside, sober and imposing columns placed 13 meters apart, representing the largest interval observed in all the world’s Medieval churches.
