Museum of Chocolate
This exciting facility promoted by the Barcelona Confectionary Guild pays tribute to the amazing history of chocolate, exploring its first arrival in Europe, its quasi-mythical qualities, its various medicinal and aphrodisiac properties, and of course, its sublime nutritional value.
The Museum is located in a historical building which actually has a lot to do with the story of chocolate itself. The ancient convent of Sant Agustí (dating back to the 14th-15th centuries) was occupied by the Bourbon army in 1750, and was used as a barracks. Army regulations stipulated that chocolate appear on the menus in military academies in the 18th century, during which time was obediently enjoyed by the troops.
